Root Patisserie is a cafe located in Taman Kota Laksamana among a row of other restaurants, hair salons and boutique shops. The exterior looks simple but you can't miss the sign. Its located quite a distance from the heritage area so you may need to take the bus or a taxi to get here.

The offer aircon and wifi inside as well.

The interior has more of an impact than their outside. Although not as aesthetic as the other cafes in the heritage are, I feel like the cafe had a cute, quaint charm to it.

MENU

Root offers a selection of drinks and desserts on their menu:

And they boast a wide selection of sweets to choose from! I was pleasantly surprised to see so many cakes and desserts in their displays!

Here's some of the "cold" refrigerated desserts like their cakes, macarons, truffles, flans & eclairs:

And here's some of the "dry" desserts like their cupcakes, lava cakes, tarts, quiches, breads and cookies:

I feel like this place is great for tea time when you want to spoil yourself with sweets galore!

On with the food porn shots!

Creme Caramel | RM9

The flan was nicely sweet and not burnt at all. Flan is actually a popular dessert in the Philippines and I've had quite a lot of it when I was young. Its easy to burn the sugar, making it bitter and ruining the whole thing. Root's flan was just nice with no hints of burnt caramel whatsoever! ^^

The cinnamon & sugar breadsticks were a surprise because I swear I've had breadsticks like those before but I can't remember where. They were so good! I wanted to ask for more to be honest hahaha

I give this a rating of 4/5!

Assorted Macarons | RM4.80 per piece
(Black sesame, rose & charcoal)

I feel like macarons are the "it" thing for high tea sets, yet I only ever see macarons available in TWG and very seldom in other cafes. Root's macarons were perfect both in size and taste/texture. They're slightly bigger than normal and tasted quite nice to be honest. The filling had the same texture as dulce de leche and my fave was the chocolate one!

I give this a rating of 4.5!

Chocolate Eclair | RM9

This eclair for me was so-so. I didn't expect the chocolate filling to be more on the mocha/dark chocolate side.  Maybe it's just me because I like really sweet stuff. The toppings were a nice touch, so I give this a 3.5/5.

Croissant Bread & Butter Pudding with Cherry Compote | RM12

I'm not sure if the name is correct because TBH I forgot to take it's pic in the display case and the receipt got lost haha.

The bread pudding was warmed up and was nice and buttery. It was quite so-so, but paired with the cherry compote? MY GOD, my taste buds exploded! It was so sweet & tangy, paired with the bread pudding and it was HEAVEN! This is my number 1 recommendation if you ever visit this cafe!

I give this a 4.5/5 just because I wish they gave more of the cherry.

Pink Grapefruit Spritzer | RM11.90

Okay, we took the bus to this cafe and it took us 2 HOURS to reach it from Melaka Sentral. 2 HOURS. I was friggin dying and needed refreshment real bad. These spritzers didn't disappoint. Sweet and fruity, the perfect drink on that super hot summer day.

I give it a rating of 3.5/5.

Passion Fruit Yogurt | RM11.90

This was Fufy's drink and according to her she didn't really like it because she couldn't taste the passion fruit at all. I tried it and I could totally taste the passion fruit hahaha. The flavour is subtle, not too powerful but definitely there.

I give this a rating of 3.5/5.

The cafe closes at 6.30 and reopens at 7pm for some reason, so we were actually quite rushed to finish our food. The staff were friendly and didn't rush us at all, so kudos to them! (We legit took our time taking a million pictures, so them not shoo-ing us away was greatly appreciated haha. Thanks Root staff!)

And here's another flatlay just cus there was Baby's Breath and I love Baby's Breath:

And that's it for this cafe hopping post! Root Patisserie is ranked the 2nd best bakery in Melaka according to TripAdvisor. They have no GST and no service charge as well! In my opinion their stuff are quite nice and fairly priced, so do drop by if you're ever in Melaka!
